Addiction & Recovery: through knowledge of the origins, progression, and symptoms of addiction in general, while specializing in its various forms, whether drugs, gambling, sex, food, or any other dependency, therapists working with this pervasive social health issue introduce various tools to guide clients through the recovery process. Supports include: comprehensive formulation of treatment plans integrating the services of all health professionals involved in the client’s care, inclusion of family and close friends in the treatment, and encouragement of voluntary participation in self-help programs in the community. Further modalities for treatment may include individual and group counseling, addressing issues of co-dependency and family dynamics, intervention strategies and relapse prevention, crisis-oriented counseling, triage and short-term brief counseling, psychiatric case management for outpatient and inpatient clients, and medication regimes.
